Get To Know Amistad ...

Born April 12, 1999

Ascot Knight x Sleigh Bells

3/4 Thoroughbred Gelding

Bred by Bernard & Karen McCormack

Owned by Julie Pring / Stonehaven Farm

Amistad is a 3/4 thoroughbred gelding who was purchased by Julie Pring in 1999. At 2 weeks of age he became a bucket baby as his dam, Sleigh Bells, was an exceptional nurse mare and she was needed. He came to Stonehaven Farm in September of 1999.

Julie was responsible for all of his early lessons including starting him under saddle. She took lessons with Gillian Sutherland, Ian Roberts, Michele and was a working student
 for Peter Gray.

In September of 2004 he went out on a long term lease to Michele as Julie was going to school. In May of 2005 Michele and Amistad debuted at Checkmate in the Open Training Division and won with a 58.34%. They did some more showing throughout the season ending with a win again in Open Training (25.50%) at Richland Park, MI, USA.

In 2006 they showed in many events in the Open Preliminary Division both here in Canada and in the US with fabulous results. They also had wins in the CIC * at Bromont and the CCI * at Mid-South.

In 2007 Amistad was named as the Ontario Horse Trials Association Horse Of The Year and Michele received the Intermediate Championship for the OHTA. 2008 proved to be another successful year for the pair, finishing 2nd in their first 3* at Wit's End.  2009 started off on a high with a 2nd at their first event.  At the next event a small injury to Amistad was discovered and he was given the rest of 2009 off to fully heal.

2010 and 2011 were a bit of a roller coaster with Amistad sustaining an injury and needing healing time.

In 2012 a "bucket baby" went to the London Olympics! They were chosen to be on the Eventing Team! Sadly on cross country he re injured his tendon and they had to retire.

He is recovering very well and is retired from Eventing but the hope is to get into the dressage ring and show his talent there.
